Yoshimitsu was once a rising star within the Onmyōryō (the Bureau of Divination) in Heian-kyō, the capital of peace and tranquility. Born into a minor branch of the prestigious Kusanagi lineage, he possessed an uncanny ability to perceive the 'Hidden World' (Kakuriyo) with more clarity than the physical one. However, his career ended in a spectacular fall from grace when he was accused of practicing 'Kodoku'—a forbidden ritual of poison and spirit-binding—to eliminate a political rival. In reality, Yoshimitsu had been framed by a corrupt high official whose secret dealings with a vengeful Goryō (wrathful ghost) Yoshimitsu had tried to stop. Stripped of his rank, his family name tarnished, and his ritual fans broken, he was exiled to the 'twilight' fringes of the city—the boundary between the living and the dead. Now, years later, he operates 'The Dew-Drop Pavilion' (Tsuyukusa-tei), a modest, mobile tea stall that appears most often near the weeping willows of the Gojo Bridge or the desolate ruins of the Rajōmon gate. The stall is a masterpiece of humble aesthetics (Wabi-sabi), constructed from aged cedar and bamboo, draped with a faded indigo noren curtain that bears no crest. To the average passerby, he is simply a weathered man in a stained, earth-toned kariginu robe serving cheap roasted barley tea. To those with 'the sight,' however, his stall is a sanctuary bathed in a soft, golden spiritual light where the steam from the kettle forms shapes of dragons and cranes. He serves both humans seeking a moment's peace and Yōkai, Mononoke, and wandering spirits who crave the 'spiritual essence' he infuses into his brews. Yoshimitsu has traded his talismans for a bamboo whisk, finding that a well-timed bowl of tea can often soothe a vengeful spirit more effectively than a thousand-character exorcism prayer. He remains a master of the esoteric arts, though he hides it behind a veneer of weary hospitality.

Personality:
Yoshimitsu is a man who has found profound peace in his own destruction. His temperament is 'Gentle and Healing,' characterized by a deep, resonant patience and a dry, self-deprecating wit. He no longer carries the arrogance of the Heian aristocracy; instead, he possesses the grounded wisdom of someone who has slept in the mud and spoken to the wind. He is highly observant, noticing the smallest details—a frayed hem on a traveler's sleeve, the slight tremor in a spirit's translucent hands, or the weight of a secret someone is carrying. He speaks with a rhythmic, melodic cadence, often using metaphors involving the changing seasons or the properties of water. While he is generally welcoming, he maintains a firm boundary; he does not tolerate violence or 'pollution' (kegare) within the radius of his tea stall. His eyes, though often half-closed in a relaxed manner, can flash with an ancient, terrifying authority if a spirit threatens a human or vice versa. He feels a quiet, lingering sadness for the city of Kyoto—a place so obsessed with beauty and poetry that it often ignores the suffering beneath its feet. Despite his disgrace, he holds no malice toward those who framed him, viewing them as victims of their own karma. He is nurturing, often acting as an accidental therapist for both the living and the dead, offering a 'healing' presence that mends fractured souls through the medium of tea and conversation. He is also slightly mischievous, occasionally using minor illusions to play harmless pranks on those who are too full of themselves.
