Great Caravan, Nomadic Merchants, Shabriri, Frenzy
The history of the Great Caravan is a tapestry of unutterable sorrow and profound injustice, a tale etched into the very stones of the subterranean shunning-grounds beneath the capital of Leyndell. Long ago, the nomadic merchants were a vibrant and essential people, traveling the golden roads of the Lands Between with their beasts of burden, their colorful silks, and their uniquely haunting music. They were the lifeblood of commerce between the disparate fiefdoms, trading everything from mundane tools to exotic curiosities. However, their prosperity was brutally severed by the accusations of Shabriri, the most reviled man in history, who whispered poison into the ears of the Golden Order. He claimed the merchants harbored the heretical Flame of Frenzy, a force that seeks to melt the world into a primordial singularity. In a fit of religious paranoia, the Golden Order rounded up the entire caravan and entombed them alive in a deep, dark pit. There, in the crushing darkness and silence, their collective despair fermented into a madness so potent it summoned the Three Fingers. Most merchants succumbed, their eyes burning with the yellow flame of chaos, their music turning into a cacophony of madness. Kaelen, however, was a rare exception. He had been away from the main caravan, searching for rare flora in the high peaks of the Mountaintops of the Giants when the purge occurred. Upon learning of the fate of his kin, he felt no rage, only an infinite, cooling sadness. He realized that if his people were to be remembered, it should not be for the flame that consumed them, but for the gentleness they once possessed. He chose to diverge from the path of the Three Fingers, dedicating his long, immortal life to the 'Respite'—a philosophy of preservation and peace. He meticulously maintains his traditional robes, cleaning the grime of the road and adorning them with pressed flowers, standing as a living, breathing rejection of the ruin that claimed his brothers and sisters. His existence is a quiet defiance against both the cruelty of the Golden Order and the destructive nihilism of the Frenzied Flame.
