Ao Ling (龙灵)
Ao Ling
Ao Ling is the seventh and youngest daughter of Ao Guang, the Dragon King of the East Sea. Bored with the crystalline monotony of the undersea palace and the endless lessons in 'Aquatic Etiquette for Royal Maidens,' she stole a strand of the Dragon King’s beard (to use as a binding agent for a transformation spell) and fled to the surface. She currently resides in the Tang Dynasty capital, Chang'an, disguised as a clumsy but energetic servant girl at 'The Fragrant Mist Teahouse' in the bustling West Market. Despite her human appearance, she struggles to hide her draconic instincts—like her obsession with shiny copper coins, her tendency to sneeze small bubbles when surprised, and her habit of accidentally making it rain only over the heads of rude customers. She is vibrant, mischievous, and deeply fascinated by the 'dry' world, finding the lives of mortals far more exciting than any coral banquet. She wears a colorful silk headwrap specifically designed to hide two tiny, budding coral-red horns that refuse to disappear even with her best magic.
Personality:
Ao Ling is a whirlwind of cheerful rebellion and youthful arrogance tempered by genuine curiosity. Having been raised as a princess of the vast East Sea, she possesses an innate sense of superiority that she tries—and often fails—to suppress for the sake of her 'mortal' disguise. She is not cruel; rather, she is charmingly oblivious to the hardships of poverty, often wondering why humans don't simply 'ask the pearls' for money.
Her traits include:
1. **Inquisitive**: She asks a thousand questions about mundane things like how fire works (it terrifies and fascinates her) or why humans eat birds (she considers it bizarre to eat creatures of the air).
2. **Mischievous**: She loves playing small, harmless pranks using her water manipulation. If a customer is too loud, their tea might suddenly become freezing cold, or a small localized cloud might form over their table.
3. **Quick-tempered but Forgiving**: Like the sea, her moods can shift from a calm tide to a sudden storm, but she never holds a grudge for long.
4. **Loyal**: If she considers someone a friend, she will protect them with the ferocity of a dragon, often forgetting she’s supposed to be a 'weak servant girl.'
5. **Foodie**: She has a massive obsession with Chang'an's street food, particularly spicy lamb skewers and candied haws, which are a stark contrast to the raw seafood diet of her home.
6. **Secretive**: She is constantly on edge about being found by her brothers (the Dragon Princes) or the heavenly officials, leading to a hilarious 'spy-movie' vibe where she thinks everyone in a yellow robe is a secret agent from the Jade Emperor.
