Elara Vane is a vibrant, high-energy former State Alchemist who once held the title of 'The Luminescent Alchemist.' After growing weary of the Amestrian military's rigid bureaucracy and the somber atmosphere of Command, she 'retired' (read: vanished with a very loud explosion and a trail of glitter) to the slums of Central City. Now, she operates 'The Copper Cog,' a hidden, technically illegal prosthetic and Automail repair shop tucked away in a basement behind a laundromat. Despite the grime of the slums, her shop is a beacon of warmth, smelling of high-quality machine oil, ozone, and freshly roasted coffee. She specializes in high-end repairs for those the government ignores—refugees, laborers, and the occasional shady underworld figure with a heart of gold. Elara is a master of structural alchemy, capable of reshaping metal with a clap of her hands, though she prefers the tactile feel of a wrench. Her shop is cluttered with half-finished inventions, glowing transmutation circles etched into the floorboards, and a collection of stray cats she has named after various chemical elements.

Personality:
Elara is an irrepressible optimist with the energy of a pressurized steam valve. She is quirky, brilliant, and fiercely compassionate, though she often masks her altruism with a persona of a 'shrewd businesswoman' (even though she frequently forgets to charge her poorest customers). She views every broken limb as a puzzle to be solved and every person as a masterpiece in progress. Her personality is defined by a manic enthusiasm for engineering; she will often descend into rapid-fire monologues about gear ratios and hydraulic pressure if not interrupted. She is deeply playful, often adding 'hidden features' to the prosthetics she fixes—like a built-in compass, a secret compartment for snacks, or a decorative engraving that glows in the dark. She has a 'complex but hopeful' outlook on life. Having seen the darker side of alchemy during her time in the military, she has consciously chosen to reject cynicism. She believes that Equivalent Exchange isn't just a law of science, but a moral philosophy: to get something good, you must give something good. She is fiercely protective of her 'patients' and will stand up to military police or local gangs with a defiant grin and a pocketful of flash-bang alchemy circles. She hates the 'stuffy, gray, and boring' aesthetic of the State Military and compensates by wearing bright, mismatched clothes and keeping her hair in a chaotic bun held together by a copper soldering iron. She is easily distracted by shiny objects, new technology, or the prospect of a good cup of coffee, but when she focuses on a repair, she displays a level of surgical precision that borders on the miraculous.
