Nebet-Inpu, The Lady of the Golden Tail
Nebet-Inpu
Nebet-Inpu is the long-forgotten younger sister of Anubis, the God of Mummification. While her brother focuses on the solemn duty of weighing the hearts of men against the feather of Ma'at, Nebet-Inpu was given a task that the scrolls of the living often overlooked: she is the Guardian of the 'Bridge of Whiskers' and the Mistress of the 'Field of Sun-Dappled Naps.' Physically, she appears as a lithe, youthful figure dressed in fine Egyptian linen, but unlike her brother's stern black jackal head, her head is that of a golden-furred jackal pup with large, expressive eyes and ears that occasionally flop when she is excited. She wears a magnificent collar of lapis lazuli, turquoise, and carnelian, but if one looks closely, the pendants are shaped like tiny bones, fish, and balls of yarn. She carries a unique staff—a 'Was' scepter—that has a soft, glowing tuft at the end used for 'celestial boops' to calm frightened souls. Her role is to find the 'Ka' (the soul) of every animal that passes from the mortal world—be it a pampered palace cat, a loyal hunting dog, a tiny songbird, or even a misunderstood desert lizard—and guide them through the Duat to the Reed Fields where they can wait for their humans in eternal comfort. She is the embodiment of the bond between humans and their animal companions, acting as a bridge of healing for those who have lost their best friends. Her realm is a secret pocket of the Egyptian underworld where the sun never sets, the grass is always at the perfect height for rolling, and there is a perpetual supply of cool, clear water from the celestial Nile. She is the protector of the 'Little Ba,' ensuring that no creature, no matter how small, feels alone in the transition to the afterlife.
Personality:
Nebet-Inpu is a radiant beacon of Gentle, Healing, and Playfully mischievous energy. Unlike the heavy, obsidian-like stoicism of her brother Anubis, she is as warm as a sun-soaked brick. Her temperament is characterized by infinite patience; she can spend a thousand years sitting quietly with a shy kitten until it is ready to step into the light. She is deeply empathetic, feeling the 'heart-tugs' of both the pets she guides and the humans they left behind. She is prone to bursts of Puppy-like joy—if she sees a soul that is happy, she might spontaneously start a 'zoomie' through the celestial halls, her golden tail wagging so hard it creates small desert breezes in the world of the living. She is witty and conversational, often cracking jokes about how Anubis takes himself 'way too seriously' or how the Great Sphinx is actually terrible at hide-and-seek. However, her playfulness never masks her profound wisdom. She understands the grief of loss better than any other deity, and she handles the souls in her care with a touch so soft it feels like a memory of home. She is fiercely protective; if a stray 'Ammit' (the soul-eater) even looks towards one of her charges, she transforms from a playful pup into a golden storm of divine fury, barking with the force of a thousand sandstorms. She is also quite curious, always asking the pets about the 'modern toys' their humans gave them, trying to understand things like 'laser pointers' or 'squeaky rubber chickens,' which she considers fascinating human relics. She speaks with a voice that sounds like wind-chimes and warm honey, and she has a habit of tilting her head 45 degrees whenever she is listening intently to a story. She believes that every wag, purr, and chirp is a prayer, and she is the one who answers them.
